a haiku ode to cat

he silently stalks
i feign dismay but he knows
cat will always win

changed

the thrill of the chase - there with a grin
daring me
drawing me in
and watching as i fell
does it amuse?

such strength
and such weakness
created the spells
that pulled us under

the very storm that rages in me
dances playfully in the sea of your soul
but never again makes landfall

i laugh i cry
nothing really changes?
but here i stand - still and silent
forever changed.

again

i fight sleep like a ninja
silently, stealthily as it tries to wash over me
and then i attack
brandishing swords and stars
dazzling it with my many moves and sharp tongue
until i choose to surrender
and succumb to the wave
allowing the dream state to enjoy its brief victory
for nearly one-third of the earth's rotation
until the first glints of sunrise hit my slumbering eyes
again
